Solar Panel Installation in Bath

Bath is a harder city to put solar on than most, and any installer who tells you otherwise has not looked properly. Much of the centre sits in a conservation area and a good number of houses are listed. That does not rule solar out. It does mean the panels have to be sited with more thought, and it means somebody has to check your address with the council before you spend anything. We do that check first, for free, and we tell you plainly where you stand.

The roofs vary just as much. The Georgian terraces around the centre, Widcombe and Bear Flat often have steep pitches, shared parapets and awkward access, so the scaffold plan matters as much as the panels. The hillside streets in Larkhall, Oldfield Park and Combe Down get very different light through the day depending which way they face. The post-war houses out towards Odd Down and Weston have the simple, well angled roofs solar likes best. We survey the roof and your actual power use, then size the system around both.

Where the look of the roof matters, there are neater options. All black panels and in roof mounting sit much flatter and read as part of the roof rather than something bolted on. They cost a little more. On the right Bath street they are the difference between a system that gets waved through and one that causes an argument.

We are MCS certified for solar and battery, so we install the system and register it on completion. That registration is what lets you be paid for the power you export, so it is worth far more than a certificate in a drawer.

Your questions, answered

Can I put solar panels on a house in a Bath conservation area?

Usually yes, but where they go matters. Panels on a slope facing a road get looked at far more closely than panels on the back. We check your address with the council before we quote and tell you what is realistic for your roof.

What if my house is listed?

A listed building needs listed building consent, so it is a longer route and it is not always granted. We tell you that up front rather than taking your money and hoping. If your roof is a poor fit we will say so.

Do you cover the villages around Bath?

Yes. We work right across Bath and the surrounding villages, along with Keynsham, Bristol and the towns between them. Travel is included in the price we quote you.

How long does the install take?

Most Bath homes are one to two days on the roof, plus a day either side for scaffold up and down. Steep or awkward access can add time, and we tell you that at the quote rather than on the morning.
