A home battery stores power so you can use it later. It charges when power is cheap or when your panels are making more than the house needs, then runs the house in the evening when the price goes up. That is the whole idea. Most of the value comes from the hours you stop buying at the expensive rate, so the right size of battery depends on how you actually use power, not on the size of your roof.
You do not need solar panels to have a battery. Plenty of Bristol homes we fit have no panels at all. If you are on a tariff with cheap overnight hours, the battery fills up at night and carries you through the day. If you do have panels, the battery holds what you would otherwise send straight back to the grid. We will look at your bills and your meter readings first, then tell you which of those two your house is.
We are MCS certified for solar and battery, so a battery we fit alongside panels is registered properly. That registration is what keeps your export arrangement in order. We also notify your network operator, test the work and issue your certificate, so nothing is left for you to chase.
Sized on your bills
We read your real usage before we quote, so you buy the battery your house needs and not the biggest one on the shelf.
Sited sensibly
Garage, utility, loft or an outside wall. We agree the spot with you first and keep the cabling tidy and short.
Usually one day
Most battery installs are done in a day, with the power off for a short spell while we make the connection.
Tested and notified
Fully tested and certified, with your network operator notified, so the system is signed off correctly from day one.
Your questions, answered
Can I have a battery without solar panels?
Yes. A battery on its own charges from the grid when power is cheapest and runs your house at the times it costs most. On the right tariff that alone can be worth doing. We will look at your bills and tell you honestly whether it stacks up for your home.
Where does the battery go?
Most go in a garage, a utility room, a loft or on an outside wall. They need air around them and a sensible run back to the fuse board. We walk the house with you, agree the spot before we start and keep the cabling neat.
Will the battery keep my house on in a power cut?
Only if it is set up for backup, which is a different bit of kit and a different price. Plenty of batteries are fitted purely to cut bills. Tell us backup matters to you and we will quote it that way from the start.
How long does a battery last?
Batteries are rated by how many times they can be filled and emptied, and most home batteries are built for many years of daily use. We fit brands with a proper warranty and we show you the warranty terms before you buy, not after.
